Flu Shots, Kidney Humor, and Success
Hello! Welcome back to The Friday Sign Out - a newsletter for primary care physicians and advanced practice providers.
I don’t know about you, but it felt like a really long “short” week! We are starting to feel the effect of back to school germs in our clinic - lots of sick patients - colds, COVID, even a little flu. Guess it’s about that time.
Here’s what I’m reading and thinking about this week.
In the News
Our clinic got flu shots in this week. Patients are already lining up! Here’s a little refresher and update re: recommendations from the ACIP with changes specific to those with egg allergies.
In Your Practice
Not necessarily a practice tip per say, but this made me laugh. It’s a little nephrology humor and a nod to the complexities of our jobs.

How I explain renal dysfunction to pts: Kidneys are like cats. You can't make them do something they don't want to do.
You can optimize the environment for their comfort (BP, volume, no NSAIDs) but ultimately, they'll decide which way to go.

In Your Heart
I’m loving James Clear’s newsletter this week. Simple words on the recipe for success that just makes it seem doable. It’s a little boost of motivation for the end of the week. Keep doing the good work!
"Enough courage to get started + enough sense to focus on something you’re naturally suited for + enough persistence to stay in the game long enough to catch a few lucky breaks + a lot of hard work. There’s your recipe."
Have a wonderful weekend!
